Choreography: Kylee Hart and Jorden Morris
Jorden Morris – “I greatly anticipate the creation of company dancer/choreographer Kylee Hart who is developing a new work for us, I look forward to mentoring her and watching a new Alberta female choreographic voice emerge.”
A bright new face on the choreographic scene, Citie Ballet’s Kylee Hart debuts her first choreographic piece by bringing the music of Schubert to life on the Timms stage with FIVE. Five dancers, five sections, for our fifth season. FIVE is inspired by the relationship between ballet and its creation, both rooted in tradition and bound by subjectivity. It serves an an investigation of how art must be challenged by its creator to allow new vocabulary to be born. “The artist must train not only his eye, but also his soul” – Wassily Kandinsky

As part of Citie Ballet’s homage to Canada’s sesquicentennial celebrations, we explore our own ties to the Irish, Scottish and Welsh settlers of Canada with the creation of a new work titled Turas, meaning a journey or pilgrimage in Gaelic. By artistic director Jorden Morris, Turas is a story told through balletic vignettes, from stepping off the boat into a new world to the subsequent journey that shapes an emerging Canadian identity. Turas will draw from a collection of stories of individuals and families who migrated from Ireland, Scotland and Wales to become new Canadians and articulate their hopes, fears, and new beginnings.
This work will feature a Celtic soundtrack including selections from Edmonton singer songwriter Maria Dunn to bring the poignant narrative to life.
