Emotion

Featuring the pas de deux from Romeo and Juliet, Ophelia, and Love Articulated (a new performance by Citie Ballet).

Witness an affair between two young lovers in Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet’s famous balcony scene. Experience Ophelia, as it hits the inevitable doubts we have about love right on the nose. And then enjoy the first look at Love Articulated, a new performance by Citie Ballet’s own dancer/choreographer, Kiera Keglowitsch.

Ophelia

Choreographer: Jorden Morris

Lighting Design: Blaine Rittinger

Vocalist: Andrea House

Music and Lyrics: Daniel Hope and Kaleigh Watts

Pas de deux: Kylee Hart and Kiera Keglowitsch

Based on the heroine from the Shakespearean classic Hamlet, Ophelia deals with the duality and conflict within ourselves, and how these feelings are often irreconcilable yet inseparably intertwined. Inspired by the powerful music of Daniel Hope, Jorden pushes the contemporary and dramatic skills of the company’s female artists.

Rudi Van Dantzig’s Romeo and Juliet is a classical masterpiece that has endured the test of time. The heartbreaking story of a young couple desperately in love but destined to be torn apart by their families is told through movement in a compelling pas de deux.

Love Articulated is the expression of the many components of love. The choreography explores the breadth of love and the many ways in which it guides our lives. Love is a universal term and something that everyone can relate to in some way, however this performance challenges what we may think of when we consider ‘love’, and pushes us to investigate the less obvious aspects of this complex emotion.
