The season ends with the coming of spring, featuring Jorden Morris’ Tierra and two brand new performances by two emerging young Canadian choreographers, Lydia Redpath and Shaun Gheyssen.
Ouvrir is Redpath’s thoughtful exploration of a young woman’s commitment to remain open and vulnerable as she navigates through adulthood.
Shaun Gheyssen’s piece Harekat examines the notion of surrendering to change.
Tierra reflects on how dance and the creativity of the human spirit continue to evolve as the seasons change.

Set to a variety of Spanish music, Tierra explores our relationship with the environment in its most visceral form, the earth itself. This piece is inspired by the people who till or care for the earth, those who have a relationship with the dirt, and spend their lives growing and nurturing beautiful things from that earth. Every culture has those caretakers, those sentinels of the secrets the earth holds. Tierra explores movements where the dancers are, at times, the earth. Sometimes they are caretakers, sometimes the bounty and sometimes the creatures upon it, and how their own relationships are tied to the earth, with a deep rooted love of tradition, gratitude and tenderness.
