Two new dynamic pieces come together in our second performance of the season. Former Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal soloist Brett Taylor presents Gate 3, his energetic narrative of human movement and the emotional intersections that occur along the way. Taylor brings a contemporary choreographic voice within a strong balletic foundation. The second piece features Edmonton choreographer Kiera Keglowitsch’s exploration of the mental turmoil and relationships between artists, the creation of their work and the dynamics at play with critical self-thinking. This work is beautifully framed by digitized projections created in collaboration with the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts.
This dynamic new piece, created for Citie Ballet by former soloist of Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal, Brett Taylor, explores a cross- section of a moment in time at transport stations. In a place where strangers from all walks of life stand shoulder to shoulder every day, seemingly small interactions can have a much larger impact on one’s life than anticipated. Taylor’s joyful choreographic style offers an energetic and often playful look at human interactions and the emotional intersections that occur in our everyday lives.

Using dance as a form of creative storytelling, See Me aims to increase understanding and foster compassion while highlighting the strength it takes to come to terms with our own vulnerabilities. Through the language of contemporary ballet, Kiera Keglowitsch pulls from her own experience with anxiety to share insights and encourage a deeper conversation that allows us to celebrate ourselves as human beings.
See Me’s series of original large-scale canvasses were created by Scott Berry and others from the artists’ collective at the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts. This collaboration between a collective of artists with disabilities and a ballet company is the rst of its kind in Canada.
