Poet
Haitian-born poet, psalmist and spoken-word artist Medgine Mathurin is a person for whom the love of language and the alchemy of words is second nature. Her multilingual upbringing (French, Creole and English) not only prompted her to begin experimenting with the potential and magic of language, but naturally compelled her into a deep love of poetry.
The inclination to pursue poetic meaning even within the confines of common language is what makes Medgine a poet of enduring complexity and substance. This, combined with a sincere desire to reflect the love and power of God in her poetic work, is part of what makes her a unique and cherished voice within her home province of Alberta and the wider landscape of Canadian performance poetry.
