Nisha Patel

Poet

Nisha is an award-winning Indo-Canadian poet, artist and public speaker in Edmonton, Alberta. She served as the City of Edmonton Poet Laureate from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2021 and as the Regional Writer in Residence at Strathcona County and St. Albert. She is the 2019 Canadian Individual Slam Champion and the Executive Director of the Edmonton Poetry Festival. Her debut collection Coconut is available now.

 

Her chapbooks I See You and Limited Success, and co-authored Water are also available now. Her new micro-press partnership, Moon Jelly House, publishes only BIPOC poets.

 

Nisha holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta School of Business, with a major in Business Economics and Law, and a Certificate in Leadership.
