Spring has nearly sprung and we are proud to be showcasing Citie Ballet’s newest creations in our final production of the 2016/2017 season, Boundaries. Always blending contemporary with classical ballet, Citie Ballet continues to push its own boundaries with two new premieres sure to intrigue and capture our audiences.
For her choreographic debut, Citie Ballet dancer Kylee Hart brings FIVE to the stage – inspired by the relationship between people and art and how art shapes us as emotional beings. This work explores how the presence of art in our lives influences how we perceive events, how we relate to our surroundings and how we interact with one another.
Artistic Director Jorden Morris wraps up the season with Turas (meaning “journey” in Gaelic). In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, Turas allows us to experience the stories of Irish, Scottish and Welsh settlers to Canada through balletic vignettes, highlighted by a Celtic soundtrack including selections from Edmonton singer songwriter Maria Dunn. The combination of fluid movement and traditional melodies truly brings this poignant narrative to life.
