Ballet Edmonton invites you to experience LUMEN—an evening of bold creation, personal reflection, and visceral intensity.
This program highlights two works by newly appointed Artistic Director Diego Ramalho: Indelible Stain and Valei-Me. Together, these pieces offer a compelling dialogue between origin and evolution, identity and transformation, grounding the company’s next chapter in both innovation and lived experience.
Indelible Stain delves into the profound journey of solitude and resilience. It reflects on the challenges and moments that leave lasting imprints on our lives, shaping who we become. Drawing from Ramalho’s roots in breakdance, the work brings a raw, physical language to the stage—bridging contemporary dance with urban form. Through movement, it invites audiences to reflect on their own paths, finding connection and understanding within shared human experience.
Valei-Me, which premiered with Ballet Edmonton in 2022, returns as a vibrant and deeply personal work rooted in Brazilian culture. Set to a rich musical landscape ranging from classical compositions to driving, percussive rhythms, the piece celebrates heritage, emotional depth, and the strength of community in times of hardship. Included in the company’s 2023 national tour—featuring a presentation at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa—Valei-Me continues to resonate with audiences.
LUMEN signals a new chapter for Ballet Edmonton—one rooted in new possibilities and a determination to continue shaping Ballet Edmonton as a vibrant force for contemporary creation and artistic innovation in Canada.
Join us for a memorable evening of bold creation, powerful movement, and shared human experience.
