Emerging Artist
Ben Waters (he/him) was born in Burnaby, British Columbia. His dance career began at the small age of 2 with casual tap dance classes, which eventually lead to competing around BC in many different dance styles. At 16, Ben joined Arts Umbrella’s professional training program in Vancouver under the direction of Artemis Gordon. He was a member of the inaugural Ballet BC Performance Project (2021/22), which lead to him joining Ballet BC as an Emerging Artist for the 2022/23 season under the direction of Medhi Walerski.
During Ben’s time in Vancouver, he had the opportunity to research and perform works by Crystal Pite, Johan Inger, Sharon Eyal, Marco Goecke, Emily Molnar, Medhi Walerski, Roy Assaf, Shay Kuebler, and many more.
Ben also has a strong background in music and composition. He is Resident Composer for Arts Umbrella Dance Company and has composed original works for Ballet BC, Ethan Colangelo, the National Ballet of Canada, Norbert de La Cruz III, Christian Denise, Whim W’Him, Zeitgeist Dance Theatre, and many more.
Ben is beyond thrilled to be joining such a strong community, and to be starting a new chapter of his career at Ballet Edmonton this season!
