Meet your Citie Ballet company! We asked a Citie Ballet dancer to share a selfie and some tidbits about her life in the company!

Introducing senior dancer with Citie Ballet, Kylee Hart

What Is Your Favourite Restaurant In Edmonton?

I love the Edmonton food scene. It’s really hard to pick one from all of the amazing places there are to eat but … Mikado Sushi is definitely a go-to for me.

I also really enjoy The Next Act — fun atmosphere and the best burger and fries around!

Do You Have A Pre-Performance Ritual?

I usually go for a walk to Transcend to get a hot chocolate in my dinner break before a show. I always take a quiet moment by myself somewhere in the theatre to just sit and focus my energy into being present. And … I don’t know if this really classifies as a ritual, but I almost always have a bad dress rehearsal before a great show!

What/Who Inspired You To Become A Dancer?

I didn’t even know that being a ballet dancer was an ACTUAL job until I was about 12 years old. Growing up in a smaller city, and specifically not at a ballet school meant that I really didn’t have any dancers older than me to look to for professional dance advice. Everything was new and unknown for me.

I was very fortunate to have some amazing instructors who helped me along the way. My ballet teacher Nancy-Marie Rigler was essential in my training and she introduced me to one coach in particular, Lynnette Kelley, who had an incredible impact on guiding me to in the professional world.

What/Who Inspired You To Audition For Citie Ballet?

While I was training in Vancouver at the Goh Ballet Academy, I had coffee with a former dance instructor from my hometown, Grande Prairie. She mentioned that Citie Ballet had toured to Grande Prairie recently and I decided to look them up. I was really intrigued with the concept of a small contemporary ballet company. I sent my audition material and got a call a few months later offering me a contract. This is now my fourth season with the company and my first season as the Artistic Associate. I am so happy that I’m able to live so close to my family and have my dream job.
