Me, My Selfie And I

March 28, 2018

Gallery

Meet hard-working, fun-loving Matthew Klippenstein – Citie Ballet dancer and aspiring choreographer, whose debut piece Untamed is part of Ignite, which closes out the 2017/2018 season.

What is your inspiration/muse/style?

What inspires me to choreograph are a series of random things that make me think of story lines – it’s interesting to put those ideas into movement. I like the idea of doing something that has never been done before and I find the music I choose really influences the style of movement and the story that is being told.

Is there a choreographer you are dreaming to work with?

I think it would be interesting to work with Ohad Naharin one day. (Ohad Naharin has been hailed as one of the world’s pre-eminent contemporary choreographers. He has been the artistic director of Batsheva Dance Company since 1990 and is also the originator of an innovative movement language, Gaga.)

What are your hobbies outside of Citie Ballet?

My hobbies are anything outdoors. Especially camping, mountain biking and traveling.

If you weren’t a dancer, what kind of career do you think would inspire you?

I think I would be in some kind of search and rescue [profession] and doing martial arts.
