Ballet Edmonton is a contemporary ballet ensemble under the leadership of choreographer and Artistic Director Kirsten Wicklund. Ballet Edmonton’s vision is driven by a passion and curiosity to explore new ideas. We offer audiences original, inspired contemporary dance that reflects our Artistic Director’s adventurous curatorial vision. Our repertoire is by nationally and internationally recognized and emerging choreographers with distinctive voices. Ballet Edmonton is committed to advancing the work of female and diverse creators to ensure our productions reflect the world in which we live. We contribute to the evolution of ballet in Canada by expressing the unique narratives of the artists whose creations we help bring to life.
Ballet Edmonton has commissioned new creations by Canadian and international choreographers, including Gioconda Barbuto, Joshua Beamish, Serge Bennathan, Ethan Colangelo, Shay Kuebler, Rachel Meyer, Andrea Peña, Diego Ramalho, Ihsan Rustem, Dorotea Saykaly, James Gregg, Kirsten Wicklund, Anne Plamondon, Anya Saugstad, and former artistic director Wen Wei Wang.

Our studio practice welcomes dance artists to participate in building new work to help construct movement vocabulary and further their artistic development. Our creation process exposes opportunities to explore ideas and conversations through the expression of contemporary ballet and dance to allow for new ways of seeing ourselves and each other.
Ballet Edmonton is a Not-for-Profit charitable organization that operates in Edmonton, Alberta. We provide professional arts employment to an ensemble of dancers, technicians and arts professionals to support the creation of new work to present to the community. We hold ourselves accountable and are committed to operational activities that ensure fiscal health while supporting artistic excellence. We make certain our productions are affordable and inclusive. Our partners include artists, sponsors, government funders, other not-for-profit partners, and the Ballet Edmonton Board of Directors.
We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is Treaty No. 6 territory and a traditional meeting ground and home of the First Nations, including the treaty signatories – Cree, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stony and Cree-Iroquois – as well as other Indigenous peoples, such as the Blackfoot and Métis, who occupied this land. In addition to an Artistic Director creating stunning and emotional performances, and an Executive Director making day-to-day operational decisions, Ballet Edmonton has a Board that comprises of four committees: Governance; Finance and Audit; Marketing, Development and Operations; and as well as an Executive. The membership of the Executive Committee is composed of the Chair of the Board and the Chair of the three Committees of the Board. The Executive and Artistic Director report directly to the Board of Directors.

Each season we seek out collaborations with dance artists and choreographers to showcase the richness of the Canadian dance community to our audiences. We welcome established and emerging choreographers to create work for us and we bring their creative ideas to life in our studios and on stage.
