Another summer festival, another fantastic synergy of the arts! We recently participated in the 4th annual C’mon (Chamber Music Old & New) Festival and made some new musical friends and explored new collaborative possibilities. Artistic director Jorden Morris and artistic associate Kiera Keglowitsch met with composer Nicolas Arnaez several times to construct and develop a new piece for this year’s festival, Emergiendo. Kiera wore sensors on her arms that changed the pitch/reverb and volume of the orchestra when moved in certain ways and her percussive movements changed which vocal track played! This was a very complicated piece to develop, but the result was quite magical.
It was exciting to be a part of brand new music and brand new choreography that was unique each time we performed it, as all movements were improvised from a created vocabulary.
Kiera choreographed the dance elements and was accompanied by artistic coordinator Kylee Hart in the piece. Jorden directed the theatrical coming-together of musicians and dancers. It was a wonderful weekend of creative collaborations, new relationships and spreading our art form to a new audience base alongside the talented musicians of the C’mon Festival.
We can’t wait for next year!
