Les Sereda is a multi-disciplinary artist with a passion for dance, choreography, directing, visual design, and filmmaking. With a career spanning several decades, Les has developed a deep understanding of the arts and their creative processes. He is currently the Artistic Director of the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers in Edmonton, Alberta, where he continues to inspire and engage audiences with his innovative and captivating productions.

Les’s work as a filmmaker and visual designer has also garnered attention and acclaim. He co-produced and directed the documentary series, Dancing on Eggshells: The Making of Shumka’s Ancestors and Elders. This two-part series explores the historical fusion of Cree and Ukrainian cultures through the artistry of Shumka and the Running Thunder Dancers and Drummers. The series was originally broadcast on Telus on Demand and was later selected as an official entry at the Kyiv International Film Festival in June 2020. Les co-directed Promised Land, a dance film that celebrates the 130th anniversary of Ukrainian immigration to Canada in 2021. Produced for Shumka, the film pays tribute to the journey of Ukrainian immigrants in Alberta. Promised Land premiered on Shumka’s national Canadian tour, earning critical acclaim and recognition. The film received both the Outstanding Inter-Art Performance and Production Design Awards at FAVA Fest 2022.
